Informe Robinson Christmas day special preview
Villa, Xavi and Pedro during Barcelona vs Rubin Kazan
Four days to go and what they have to say…
“This Barca team is very good, and are still very good. In recent years they have won many titles, and we will fight hard to beat us because it will be crucial. The two matches, both at the Camp Nou and the return will be very important.
“However, there are many more points also to be played for, so the match will not be decisive, but the result will still be important for those with aspirations of the title. This team has great potential in attack, with great scoring ability. If we play well as a team, and are strong in attack and defence, that is the recipe to win at the Camp Nou.”
“Barcelona are a team full of good players, such as Iniesta and Xavi, but if I could remove anyone, it would Lionel Messi.”
“The match at the Camp Nou will be very difficult. Both teams arrive here in great form and mood, and although this match seems like just three points, it is a very special match and I think this year we will win.”
“It will be a clash between two of the best teams in the world, each with its own style and characteristics. Each has its own weapons and options. It’s hard to say which team is better. I side with mine, naturally, but things are very even as of today.”
“We have no anti-Messi or anti-missile plans. I’d rather none of their 18 men played (laughs). They are a great team. Messi, Xavi, Pedro was phenomenal the other day… Barcelona are an enormously competitive team. They have quality players that make a difference. Seriously, I want all of their best men on the pitch on Monday. I am confident we can defeat the best Barcelona.”
“Cristiano and Messi are currently the two most decisive men on either side, but it would be unfair on others to focus solely on them. There will be 20 more players on the pitch and all should be followed closely.”
“It’s an important game and we’re favourites because we’re playing at home. We are in form and playing well. We respect Madrid a lot and will try to win the game.”
“We are all excited by el clasico. We come with confidence, we are playing well and hopefully we are able to take all the points at Camp Nou.”
“These games are at 50%, no matter the form the teams arrive in. I think we are at a good level. The team has a lot of confidence and we are going to be at home. The conditions are optimal.”
Panathinaikos 0-3 Barcelona
27’ 69’ Pedro
Today Barcelona equalled their biggest away win in La Liga history, last one was in 1959 against Las Palmas (0-8). And Messi scoring his 101th goal became the second youngest to reach the 100 goal mark in La Liga just behind Raul.
After been subjected to various tests in the Hospital da Luz in Lisbon for a general discomfort and abdominal pain that had started during the journey to Lisbon, Pedro has been diagnosed with acute gastroenteritis and remained in the team hotel without participating in the training session. His pending developments will assess his participation in tomorrow’s match.
The season started for you with opportunities in front of goal and a leg injury…
It’s true I’ve had many games and sometimes I have not managed to use the chances, but the truth is that now I feel fine, I’m out of an injury, I feel good and in a steady pace, and the two goals from the last two games have helped me to gain confidence.
Has it taken a weight off?
The truth is yes, there was much talk that we were not fine in front of goal, that we failed a lot and it was true. But we always did the job and we created chances. Sometimes it is just a matter of runs, but it’s nice to get confidence for the coming matches.
On a personal level, are you playing better than last year?
I think so, I play more games and helped the team more, even though so far hasn’t been scoring as much. But you haven’t seen the best Pedro yet, every day I learn more and we are on the right track.
and Pep approves this scoreboard
“I’m happy to have scored in the league – it was about time!”
“it was about time I got a goal in the league. I’m happy because we played well as a team and I felt fine out on the pitch. I demand of myself that I take part and work hard in training to ensure I’m in the starting line up and help the team. I like scoring and I think I’m in good form right now”
Hard work: “The goals come, sooner or later. I got a lot last year, but I’ve not been so lucky in front of goal so far this season. However, I’m working hard and I’m not worried. The important thing is hard work and that the team is winning”
Best football: “We put in a great first half in Getafe and when we play like that it’s hard to beat us. I think we are the team who are playing the best football. We are better than we were a few months ago. We’ve got our form back, we’re playing well and that is the road we have to take”.
Four before el clasico: “It’s a very important game, we are all aware of that, but we have four games to go before that and we have to deal with them. I think to say that that game could decide the game is a little too early. All the games we have are tough, though it’s true that both of us seem to be dropping very few points”.
Messi: “apart from all the magic he shows on the pitch that makes him the best in the world, works hard and with his pressing he helps us all. He’s at a really high level, like he always is. It’s hard to find the words to describe how good he is”.
Villa: “he brings hard work and he’s got great movement. He‘s fit in really well and I’m sure he’ll keep on scoring”.
